Can how I eat really make a difference in my health?

I have always thought of myself as a fairly healthy eater. Yes, I have my downfalls, as everyone does, but I try very hard to keep them in check. I will admit I have an addiction to fast food, chocolate, Coke and potato chips. Knowing this, though, I don't keep it in the house and really try to limit it. I also know I am an emotional eater, but hey, let's face it, who isn't?

I grew up in a family where everything revolved around food. And boy did we have bad eating habits.... cake for breakfast, tons of chips, and I don't think I drank anything other than soda.

Meds... do they really treat injuries?

So there is a commercial here in New Zealand that always irks me. It starts with a man and a woman discussing how important it is to treat injuries immediately. Ok, I'm with them so far. This is by far the most common thing I tell my patients. The commercial continues to describe what can happen when injuries are left.... prolonged pain, arthritis, stiffness. Still with them. Starting to sound like the Report of Findings I go through with every new patient. Ready for it..... The commercial recommends using a specific over the counter medication to treat the injury!

Negativity and Your Health

I recently visited some family members and it reminded me how detrimental our environment can be to us. As soon as I walked into the house I felt sick. Similar to that feeling you get when you walk into a hospital, a funeral home or a nursing home. That heavy dirty air, slimy all over feeling. Don't get me wrong, their house is perfectly fine as far as cleanliness. It is just the atmosphere.

This is a household with a lot of negativity. The individuals live in a world where "everything happens to them".

Innate Healing

Every wonder why it seems wild animals rarely get sick? Even our domesticated pets get sick a lot less often than us humans. Why is that?

Every living thing is born with knowing what to do to stay living. We don't have to teach our heart to pump or our lungs to breath. Our bodies just know what they have to do. They even know how to stay healthy!

So why do we get sick? Most of the diseases that we see today, we do to ourselves.... obesity, allergies, super bugs, cancer, addictions, stress.... What do they all have in common?

So, why do some people get sick and others don't?

Winter has arrived here in New Zealand. It seems like everyone around me has a cold. And I once again say to myself, "it's funny how some people get sick while others don't, even within the same family". I like asking people why that is, just to see if they know. Do you know why that occurs?

Some people say the other person haven't caught the germs. Well, how is that possible? Aren't respiratory illnesses airborne? If they live in the same house, are they not breathing the same air? If they are in the same classroom, isn't it the same air?

Life

One of my favorite excuses is "life got in the way". You know what I mean. Those times when we are so absorbed in our problems, the day to day details, other people's problems, etc. that we forget to do the things we want or need to do.

It stinks when we forget to take the time to enjoy things. But what about when we neglect to take the time to take care of ourselves? When we eat fast food because we don't have time. When we skip the gym because we have other things to do. When we ignore the pain because we don't have time to deal with it.
